Growing the Honey Business to the Next Level
Wholesale Honey Farm Expands into Retail Raw Honey Market
The Reed Family Honey farm/apiary was primarily a wholesale honey business to honey packers and small local beekeepers for farmers markets. Moving from being a bulk wholesalers, they wanted to expand into the retail market—online, in their honey store, and in retail stores to offer a larger community the opportunity to experience some of the world’s best honey directly from the beekeeper.
They reached out to Color 9 to build a website because before, they had a local designer build them a “‘petty website’ that seemed more like ‘patent leather shoes when we are a work boats kind of company,’” they said. They also tried working with one of those big-name website companies you see advertised everywhere, but it turned out to be frustrating. Each time they met, they spoke with different representatives from overseas, and they felt like their needs weren’t being heard. This led them to search other beekeeper sites and discover Color 9 at the bottom of the integriBees website, leading them to contact us.
As conversations started and Color 9 learned more about what the Reed Family Honey wanted to do long-term, it became evident that they needed to take a few steps back and understand who they really were so we could communicate why people would want to buy from them vs. anybody else.
First, if they are going to sell their honey directly to the consumer, they need to change their mindset of mainly talking about bees to we have amazing honey—we are a honey company, not a bee company. This leads to digging deep into who they really are and putting it on paper to understand it. Deep down, we know who we are and what makes us different, but until you can put it down on paper, you truly can’t understand it and share it with others.
Walking side-by-side through the Color 9 Authentic Branding tools, there were so many lightbulb moments. During this process, they realized that Reed Family Honey was very generic, expected, and not memorable, and they didn’t separate themselves from the competition. After totally understanding who they are, we crafted a name that matched who they are, and Wild Honey Box with the tagline of “Nature or Nothing” was birthed. We developed the brand attributes from there, which led to the visual and tonal branding.

From Reed Family Honey
to Wild Honey Box
What’s Behind the Name: At the honey farm, they know that the best honey comes from the wilds of nature. They purposely place thier bees and hives amidst the best, untainted flowers and crops to create some of the most amazing honey on the planet. Those busy beehives are their sweet little honey boxes.

What is “Nature or Nothing”
The guarantee is that the honey you get from Wild Honey Box is 100% real, wild, raw, unfiltered honey—from the flower to the bee, to the hive, to you. In contrast, 70-80% of the honey in stores sold by big names (honey packers) may have some quality honey from the USA, but it is mixed with cheap honey from other parts of the world that may be more sugary syrup than real honey. Wild Honey Box WILL NOT sell any honey that is not created from pollen-producing plants…nature…the wild…it truly is “Nature or Nothing” for all their honey products.
Custom Retail Honey Products Labels
Wild Honey Box isn’t a slick, polished corporation but real farmers, real people, and a real family who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty. Their labels reflect this by featuring a white wood background that resembles their hives, and each product image showcases the natural ingredients inside.
The labels for liquid honey display dripping honey, while the more than 20 creamy honey labels have a smooth, spreadable texture at the top. These labels are designed to integrate seamlessly with the honey, effectively highlighting the product.
